SYSU Team Wins National First Prize at Biochemical Song Competition with Original Work on Protein Folding
On March 21, 2026, the 9th “GenScript Cup” China University Biochemical Song Competition concluded at the Air Force Medical University of the PLA. The event attracted participation from more than 60 universities nationwide, showcasing innovative approaches to integrating biochemistry with artistic expression.
A student team from Sun Yat-sen University, the “Duck U Hydroxy Team,” was awarded the national first prize for their original song Fold Me Right, which creatively interprets the scientific process of protein folding through music.
The work was composed and performed by four undergraduate students from the School of Life Sciences—Zhou Xincheng, Yang Yida, Zhao Xin, and Shi Haoze. The project was jointly supervised by faculty members Liu Feng, Lai Dehua, Shi Guang, and Li Lian from the School of Life Sciences, along with Xu Hong and Liu Yijing from the School of Arts, reflecting a strong interdisciplinary collaboration between science and the arts.
By transforming a complex biochemical concept into an engaging musical narrative, the team demonstrated both scientific understanding and artistic creativity, highlighting the potential of innovative science communication in higher education.
